Elizabeth Yanyi Close is a Panaka Skin Anangu woman from the Pitjantjatjara and Yankunytjatjara Language Groups, whose family links are to the communities of Pukutja and Amata in the APY Lands. Elizabeth’s work is about creating cultural safety to ensure our children thrive and grow. This is illustrated in the growth rings that form a topographic representation of our connection to Country.
This artwork is an urgent call for a deeper acknowledgment and understanding of this connection, to further inform the way that we best support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and families.
The painted dots represent people, children and families walking alongside the Save The Children organisation, acknowledging the work they do in partnership with families. The texture is reflective of the relationships and interconnectedness of the different facets of the landscape. The colour palette reflects earth, water and the sun, givers and sustainers of life while also being informed by the palette of Save the Children Australia Services branch — 54 reasons. 54 reasons has a strong significance to Save the Children as there are 54 articles in the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Children, with a focus of our work to continue to be in advocating, amplifying and supporting the rights of children across our work.
