About
Firesticks is a national Indigenous network that empowers communities to protect and enhance Country and wellbeing by reviving cultural knowledge practices. Firesticks leads in Indigenous-led mentoring, training, and advocacy, to demonstrate the value of Indigenous land management and knowledge systems.
Firesticks has a significant depth of knowledge and expertise, and has been working with communities for over 10 years to restore the cultural wellbeing and identity of their Country, while battling climate change and environmental degradation.
Firesticks engaged Saltwater People to design and deliver an accessible site that reflected their growth and expertise, aiming to deepen engagement with community members, donors, land management partners, and other stakeholders.

Approach
Saltwater People designed a dynamic and tactile site that elevates the significant expertise and impact of Firesticks’ work across the Country. We created a highly visual and welcoming platform that features a curated selection of imagery from the alliance’s extensive archive of photographs and videos, which has been meticulously collected over the years.
Structuring a huge archive of visual information, data and storytelling, we created a connected experience that benchmarks accessibility standards and celebrates the positive impact communities make through their work.
The new site has seen a 66% increase in traffic, which has increased fundraising opportunities and created a shared space for knowledge sharing. The site features an educational portal for Fire Practitioners to maintain and preserve cultural knowledge for future generations.
