Kulay Kalingka Branding and Identity Guidelines

Continuing our creative partnership with The Australian National University, Saltwater Country facilitated artwork and branding for ANU’s Kulay Kalingka project. Working with Cairns based artist Bernard Lee Singleton, artwork was produced to help visually communicate the lived experiences of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people with cancer.

Bernie’s work is based on personal experience and is representative of how Indigenous people and families fight illness using both Western treatments alongside holistic, spiritual and cultural practice. The basket motif illustrates the ‘Bama’ cleaning process of removing toxins from food, by placing woven baskets in streams.

This project is part of a ground-breaking longitudinal national study of culture and wellbeing for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people across the country.
