Rheumatic Heart Disease Storybook

With the the high prevalence of Rheumatic Disease and Acute Rheumatic fever in young people in Cape York, Apunipima Cape York Health Council engaged Saltwater People to produce an engaging storybook that could communicate and embed an understanding about Rheumatic Heart Disease and the preventative measures that can support healthy hearts in young people.

Partnering with Ty Waigana, Noongar and Saibaigal artist, illustrator and animator a creative work was developed using bespoke illustrations that reflect the identity of young people in Cape York. Importantly, the work encompasses the way young people and families can holistically prevent heart disease and access culturally-safe health services to manage Rheumatic Heart Disease within community.
